Pram Pram, coffins, and business.

So, we went to Pram Pram today!  Christy, Kim, and I were asked to "preach!"  Yikes - can't say I've ever done that before!  We did a skit about opening gifts and how we felt about receiving things - do we share them? wear them? are they good for us?

We then compared each gift to one of God's gifts - His written word.   Here I am talking about how we should take care of our Bibles, just like we would if someone gave us a new dress.  And how, just like we would wear the new dress, we want the Bible to change us, so that everyone can see us "clothed" in God's truth.  (Kim had a banana - which is really good for us to eat, and Christy had a bag of popcorn - which she shared with everyone!)

At the end, we told them that we had brought Bibles as gifts for them.  They asked, that instead of handing them out, we give them to the "mothers" so that they could make sure all the kids needing Bibles, and deserving the responsibility would be able to have one.  The kids were so excited.

They really enjoyed hearing about the people in America who had given these Bibles to them - people who were thinking of them and praying for them.  Thank you AUMC Senior girls D-group - you loved on some really amazing Ghanaian kids today.  I think they also really liked the pictures inside :)

I had a hard time giving this one away - thank you, Tracey!

Then, we went to eat on the beach! I had rice balls and groundnut soup MMMmmmm.

Later, we went to see the "Ga" people's amazing wooden coffins.  They are so fun - before the Ga people die, they choose what they want to be buried in - be it their favorite beer bootle or pack of cigarettes, or something that tells of their trade, like this fish, bag of flour, or tro-tro.

...or, of course, their favorite shoe!
We actually found a whole gallery of coffins, tribal art, and modern Ghanaian art - so great to know that there is a place like that here - maybe we'll be taking an art field trip soon.

Yesterday, I traveled to meet some new friends.  I was able to give these ladies a loan to start their own batik business! I am so excited to see how this turns out! We talked about colors and design, and I even made a contract.  Please pray for them, and for other people that need a little help here in Ghana.

I also got frames made for paper making!!! Yay - so I am ready to begin working with people here to recycle resources available to them, to make something beautiful, and to provide them with a small income.

Thank you, Jesus for a good weekend.  And thank you that we don't have school tomorrow!  I will be headed downtown to the big market tomorrow - I hope to have some fun pictures of that up soon!

  1. The coffins are amazing. Your art class could make them and sell them! Love the sharing at church - great analogies. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day off! We love you precious one who wears the word royally everyday, with a divine smile to match!
